Our Vision and Heritage

Founded under the aegis of the Xavier Educational Society of North Bengal, St. Xavier’s School, Alipurduar, is a co-educational institution recognized for its distinctive mission of forming students who can contribute meaningfully to society. Rooted in the Jesuit tradition of education, our school is inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, coupled with the Ignatian pedagogy that emphasizes reflection, discernment, and action.

Our vision is clear: to nurture intellectually competent, morally upright, socially responsible, and spiritually aware young individuals. Students are guided to become leaders who do not merely chase personal success but who live with empathy, justice, and courage, standing up for the voiceless and challenging injustice wherever they see it.

At our school, we proudly uphold a tradition of excellence, character, and faith through our four houses, each named after remarkable Jesuit saints and missionaries. These houses not only bring a spirit of healthy competition but also remind us of the noble values these saints stood for

Our School Houses: Inspired by Jesuit Saints

St. Aloysius Gonzaga, a young Jesuit from Italy, is known for his purity, discipline, and deep devotion to God. He gave up a life of nobility to serve others and died caring for plague victims. Our school house is inspired by his selflessness, faith, and commitment to serving humanity.

St. Stanislaus Kostka, a Polish Jesuit novice, is known for his deep faith, humility, and unwavering dedication to God. Despite hardships, he pursued his spiritual calling with courage. His life of purity, obedience, and perseverance continues to inspire our school house to strive for excellence in character and commitment.

St. John de Britto was a courageous Jesuit missionary from Portugal who served in South India. Known for his deep faith, simplicity, and dedication, he adopted local customs to spread the message of Christ. His martyrdom reflects his unwavering commitment. Our school house draws inspiration from his sacrifice and service

Roberto de Nobili was an Italian Jesuit missionary who came to India in the 17th century. Known for embracing Indian culture, he lived like a Hindu sanyasi to spread Christianity. His respect for local traditions and dedication to education and dialogue inspire our house to pursue knowledge with humility.

Spiritual Development and Faith Formation

Though St. Xavier’s School, Alipurduar, is a Christian minority institution, its doors are open to students of all faiths and backgrounds. We believe that education is incomplete without spiritual awakening—a journey into one’s conscience, values, and sense of purpose. The aim is not to impose belief, but to cultivate an openness to the transcendent, a respect for all faith traditions, and an understanding that true spirituality translates into acts of love, forgiveness, and service.

The Xavierian Code of Conduct

As a Xavierian, you are expected to uphold the dignity and reputation of your school through your conduct, whether within the campus or outside. Treat teachers, staff, and fellow students with respect and kindness at all times. Care for school property as you would your own, and contribute to keeping the campus clean and welcoming. Be punctual, attend classes regularly, and participate actively in all school activities. Honesty, sincerity, and respect must guide your actions and words. Remember, your character speaks louder than your achievements.

Beyond the Classroom – Activities & Clubs

Education at St. Xavier’s goes hand in hand with co-curricular and extracurricular activities that enrich your mind and spirit. You are encouraged to participate in sports, music, dance, debates, quizzes, art and craft, and various clubs that nurture your talents and interests. These experiences help you discover new passions, learn teamwork, and build confidence that lasts a lifetime.

Academic Life at St. Xavier’s

Our academic program follows the ICSE and ISC curricula, enriched with projects, practical work, and co-curricular activities designed to spark curiosity and independent thinking. Your active participation in lessons, completion of assignments on time, and sincere effort in examinations are essential to your growth. Teachers are here not just to instruct, but also to inspire and support you. Make use of every opportunity to ask questions, explore new ideas, and discover your potential.

Houses & Leadership

Every student belongs to one of our four houses: Kostka, Gonzaga, De-Nobili, and Britto. House activities build teamwork, healthy competition, and leadership skills. Each year, students are chosen as School Captain, Vice-Captain, House Captains, and Class Monitors, giving them the opportunity to serve, lead, and inspire their peers.

Examination & Promotion Policy

Your academic progress is evaluated through term exams, class tests, assignments, and project work. Each component plays a part in your final result, emphasizing consistent effort over the year. Promotion to the next class depends on your cumulative performance, regular attendance, and satisfactory conduct. Cheating or unfair means in exams goes against the spirit of Xavierian honesty and will have serious consequences.

Attendance & Leave

Regular attendance is the first step towards academic success. The school expects a minimum attendance of 75% to be eligible for final examinations. Absence without prior permission is discouraged, except in emergencies. In case of illness or unforeseen circumstances, inform the class teacher or office promptly, and if absent for more than three consecutive days, submit a medical certificate. Plan family travel and functions around holidays to avoid missing valuable classes.

Student Support & Counseling

Your well-being matters deeply to us. The school counselor Fr. Sebastian Minj SJ is available to guide you through academic challenges, personal issues, or emotional difficulties. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Conversations with the counselor are private and treated with sensitivity and respect.
